ABOUT US

MIL + SAM are dance artists currently living in New York.  The duo met during their studies at the University of Colorado Boulder.  Since graduating, they have been collaborating to make work fusing dance, theater, and music.  Debuting their professional collaboration at Winter Wonder Festival in 2015, the two premiered their work "Giving Yourself to Me Could Never Be Wrong."  Thereafter, the duo performed this work at the Southern Vermont Dance Festival where they also had the privilege of collaborating with gong specialist, Stephan Brandstatter, in an improvised performance.  Both look forward to sharing their work in New York.

SAM

Samantha Lysaght makes dances which combat the passive voice and the fear which blocks articulation.  Often, she is weak and quiet, or angry and too loud.  Her work processes this confusion.  Samantha’s endless investigation with texture in the body energizes her creative process.  She is turned on by specifics, wanting the body to be so nuanced, so clear, so sensorial that she connects viscerally.  Samantha attempts to find the fullest potential of the body — being the quietest, the loudest, and everywhere in between.  Currently, she collaborates with artists Millie Heckler and Shantelle Courvoiser Jackson.  In the past, she has had the pleasure to dance with Gesel Mason, Erika Randall, and Rachel Oliver.  Samantha will forever be a student of this artform.  To further her education, she trains with Daria Faïn in COREMOTION technique and apprentices for Abby Zbikowski/The New Utility.
